Zayd Ayers Dohrn was born underground and raised in New York City.
His most recent project Mother Country Radicals is a narrative podcast from Crooked Media that won the duPont-Columbia Journalism Award and the Prize for "Best Audio Storytelling" at the Tribeca Film Festival.
As a playwright, his work has been produced across the country and internationally, including at Playwrights Horizons, The Vineyard, Naked Angels, Steppenwolf, The Public/SPF, New York Stage & Film, The O'Neill Playwrights Conference,
Theatre for One, The Orchard Project, Ars Nova, SF Playhouse, Kitchen Dog Theater, Boston Playwrights', Brazil’s Visceral Companhia, Panama's Theatre Guild of Ancon, the BrechtBau Theater in Tübingen, Germany, and the Royal Court Theatre of London.
Zayd won the Horton Foote American Play Prize, Lincoln Center’s Lecomte du Nouy Prize, Theatre Masters' Visionary Playwright Award, the Kennedy Center Jean Kennedy Smith Award, the Sky Cooper American Playwriting Prize, and the Dallas Critic's Award and Independent Reviewers of New England Award for Best New Play.
He is currently writing screenplays for Netflix and FilmNation, and has developed TV pilots at HBO, Showtime, Peacock, Sundance TV, and BBC America.
Zayd holds degrees from Brown, BU, Columbia, and NYU, and was a Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at Juilliard. He is Professor and Director of the MFA in Writing for the Screen + Stage at Northwestern University.
He is also a proud member of the Dramatists Guild and the WGA.
